ASUA- Associated Students of the University of Arizona
Fundraising Workshop #2 Update - 10/20/2009
- ASUA- will fund student clubs and organizations for certain items (they have 150,000 dollars for student clubs this year)- t-shirts for the club members, possible travel to conferences for up to three members, the only things they will not fund is give aways or things to sell like pens etc... - forms must be submitted three weeks in advanced.
- ***Becoming Non-Profit*** -- www.irs.gov - is a place to go in order to fill out an application to become a non-profit organization.
- it's a good idea to become a non-profit organization because many of the grants available to student organizations require that we are non-profit. Keep in mind that if we are non-profit it encourages people to sponsor us because then that money is tax exempt. A few ideas of where to go for fundraising ideas are:
- gpsc.arizona.edu
- union.arizona.edu
- nozasearch.com
- vernier.cmo/grants/corporate.html
- fundraisinghelp.com/corporate-foundations.htm
- Another good idea, if we are non-profit, is to sign up with eatforacause - this place is a web page that partners with a large group of restaurants that help student organizations with percentage nights, no participation is necessary they just set the date and then cut the check :0)

Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA)
What: Student clubs/organizations at the University can request funding for special projects and events, including travel grants.
Where: http://www.asua.arizona.edu/applyfund.htm
How: Fill out a Funding Request Form and submit along with the following info:
1) An itemized budget for the specific event (the more detail, the higher your chances of funding)
2) A complete annual budget for your organization
3) All funding from other sources (fundraising, university departments, etc.)
4) A brief one paragraph description of the event
When: submit Funding Request Form at least 3 weeks prior to the event or 10 business days prior to the time of travel. A club representative must attend a Board Appropriations committee meeting, held on Mondays at 4:00 pm (2 weeks prior to the event or 8 business days before time of travel). The amount to be appropriated is determined and after the meeting the club representative fills out paperwork to procure the awarded funding.

Funding for Clubs:

-
Initial Club Funding: a group of students may obtain up to $500 for annual start up expenses for a club whose membership is majority graduate-professional students.

provide as much detail as possible about the resources needed to hold a proposed event (or carry out a proposed project) including a detailed budget breakdown.
-
demonstrate that the group has sought funding from other sources
