PLG meeting

I. Introductions
- Each person said their name, officer position if applicable, and what they ordered!
II. Officer updates
- Kristen and Yamila, co–presidents, neither had updates, but both noted that there was much to cover in the meeting.
- Diana, treasurer will send co–presidents current balance.
- Jez, the Webmaster shared a draft of newsletter. Diana will ask EDC (Express Documents) about cheaper printing of newsletter. Jez will check Fast Copy for prices.
III. Belize Literacy Project
- Molly, project manager for the Belize Literacy project, asked at the post office about prices for shipping books and didn't look good. Molly thinks it will cost about $300. Maybe Kristen can take the books to Belize with her when she goes this summer. Kristen will look into cost of extra luggage and Yamila has a lead on cheap luggage to pack the books into. The group might also ask for luggage as donations on list–serves and checking Craig´s list. Molly will ask SIRLS for permission to sell raffle tickets. We may consider setting up a PayPal account so that people can buy tickets virtually. Winners will be announced through e–mail. Molly suggested 1 ticket for $2, 3 tickets for $5, and 7 tickets for $10. The group agreed on the prices. The prizes include: a bag of coffee from Cafe Luce, 2 bags of coffee from Adventure Roasters, $35 gift certificate to Raging Sage, 2 sets of movie tickets for 2 people to the Loft Cinema, 2 gift bags for from Bookman´s with $50 gift certificates, one LSO membership, one SLA local chapter memberships, one LSO t–shirt, one PLG local chapter membership and a PLG tote-bag. We need to buy raffle tickets.
IV. Dry River Update
- Not much has changed since last meeting: Dry River Collective members have adopted a system and have been uploading books into LibraryThing as well as marking the books according to a color code system. If anyone wants to volunteer to help them organize their library, contact Kristen. Kristen will be the project manager, Yamila will help.
V. Read Between the Bars
- Read between the Bars – want help organizing books and creating a database. Yamila may be able to help with this after summer session one. If you are interested in serving as project manager, please contact Kristen.
VI. Summer Social Plans
- La Placita – when the July schedule is up, we will choose a movie through e–mail
VII. Review Fall Schedule of Events
- Fall Schedule – Kristen could not see a SIRLS schedule for Fall because it is not yet on the web. Here are our events for the next school year:
- Planting a tree at El Saguaro Council, (idea started at Earth Day last year) – let´s look at March 2010
- Traditional Cultural Expression– Kay was interested in speaking will Stephen be project manager?
- Web Accessibility Workshop – Dawn Hunziker – Angelina Merritt volunteered to be project manager – let´s look at second week in September
- Raffle – Yamila and Diana will look into getting the PayPal account set up, Molly will think about when she thinks would be good dates for the drawing
- Banned Book Week – Sept 26 to Oct 3 http://www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/banned/bannedbooksweek/activities/index.cfm maybe we could partner with PCPL, Kristen will set up a wiki page for Banned Books week, Burn Coals not Books was suggested as a fun slogan for a barbeque.
- Let´s have a social potluck/barbeque in the fall!
- Kennedy Park, event September 18th, Mexican Independence Day, Yamila will contact Pepsi, to raise money, Kristen will contact Pati, fundraising coordinator for other fundraising ideas
- Yamila wants to focus on marketing, Yamila wants us to have shirts that identify us as PLG when we go out and work in the community
- Brenda thinks we should do something at Festival of Books, but people brought up that it would be hard to have our own table being that the festival is during Spring Break. Maybe we could help staff the SIRLS table.
VIII. 504 Meet and Greet and Dine Around
- First Summer Session 504 socialize and recruitment dates: Dine Around June 25th, Meet and Greet June 26th 5׃30 pm (25th, Kristen, Diana, Brenda, Molly?) (26th, Kristen, Brenda, Yamila, Diana)
IX. Wrap up and open floor
- Next meeting moved to Tuesday July 7th at 1702 at 5:30 pm
- Brenda said they want a group of 5-6 people to plan the Graduate Symposium IN THE FALL, Diana suggested Brenda send out an e-mail to all three listserves to recruit people for this committee.
- Yamila wants to get together with Jez to change the look of our website and to look at other PLG websites.
